About PRH-05

PRH-05 is a teaching program to develop and prepare human resources to the petroleum industry in Brazil. It is supported by the Brazilian Petroleum Agency – ANP, in association with the National Department of Science and Technology – MCT. The Program has being conducted by the São Paulo State University (UNESP) since 1999, and along the time it has changed according to the demands of the sector of petroleum and gas. Petrobras and other entities have also supported the Program, and engaging a significant part of its students.

Petroleum Geology

This emphasis is opened to undergraduate (attending the two final years) and graduate students (Master and Doctor of Science) in Geology from UNESP (Rio Claro). They must attend together a set of Petroleum Geology courses during their summer vacation (~300 hours) and to present a research focusing Petroleum Geology as a monograph, dissertation or thesis PhD. The flexible net of courses is composed by a group of 3 non-geological courses followed by 9 specific Petroleum Geology courses, including a field work in a sedimentary basin. An association of university professors with industry professionals is in the base of the courses program. As advantages, students have access and training in geological and geophysical research laboratories, financial support to their field trips and incentive to take part in scientific meetings.

Environmental Sciences

This emphasis is opened to undergraduate (attending the two final years) and graduate (Master and Doctor of Science) students in courses related to environmental sciences from UNESP, Rio Claro (Geology, Geography, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, Geosciences, Genetics & Cell Biology, Microbiology & Biochemistry, Computational Sciences). They must attend together a set of Petroleum Geology courses during their summer vacation (~300 hours) and to present a research focusing Petroleum Geology as a monograph, dissertation or thesis PhD. The flexible net of courses is composed by a group of 3 non-geological courses followed by 23 specific courses, divided according to research lines (Environmental Sensitivity, Environment and Biofuels, Bioremediation & Biomonitoring, Oil & Gas Pipes, Environmental Engineering and Computational Sciences Applied to Environment). An association of university professors with industry professionals is in the base of the courses program. As advantages, students have access to research laboratories, financial support to their field trips and analysis and incentive to take part in scientific meetings.
